Sessions 7-10

:. Sessions 1-6

Session 1 (November 2, 2007)
Adley, Anika, Ateros

  • Zorndiek the mobster lord has acquired biological warhead of the gods plague.
  • Anika goes onto a space station to bust out Ateros, who was captured after a failed assassination attempt on the mobster lord Zorndiek.  She breaks him free by tapping in to the ships security system with her sorcerous powers and opens all the cells. Adley, captured as well, is appreciative and tags along.
  • One of Zorndiek’s men proves too much for Adley and Ateros. Ateros teleports through the ships systems closer to Anika, and Adley plows through at supersonic speeds.
  • Everyone makes their way to the stations transporter to safely beam down the planet’s surface, but before they get there the same guard tampers with the transporter. The guard transports them to far side of the desert planet Amica, into the middle of a violent sandstorm.
  • They spend the next day’s making it back to civilization by mentally linking to a ship to fly to them and get them out. They gain papers and make arrangements to meet with Zorndiek, and hopefully complete the hit.

People

Places

Zorndiek (mobster lord)

Amica (harsh desert planet, one city)

Elite Guard (unknown)

Space Station (orbits above Amica)

Session 2 (November 09, 2007)
Anika, Blade Shade

  • At her hotel Anika attempts scry upon Zorndiek, yet in her usual confusion, accidently opens an inter-dimensional gateway. Where a dark skinned Elf in a towel comes running through in a panic.
    • Much idiotic banter ensues.
  • Anika and Blade decide to continue on with the assassination since Ateros appears to have taken ill, and Adley thinks he has boils all over his skin, but he is crazy.
    • When they arrive the place is already in a chaos as a tall butch woman with a sword is standing over Zorndiek's dead body.
      • Deciding to take DeVille as a much needed ally they leave before more guards arrive.
  • With Deville’s “Help” they make it onto one of Zorndiek ships where they are storing the Bio Warheads.
    • She jumped ahead of them and it appeared as though she was trying to steal them for herself.
  • They leave in the ship the war heads are on, but are shot back down. Later they are forced to sneak back into the city from the desert.
  • On an outlying shipyard they steal a small transport and pay for transport in a larger carrier, for safe transport.
  • When they arrive at the next system, Talon, the group and DeVille go their separate ways.
    • They notice later that DeVille apparently stole the war heads, somehow.

People

Places

DeVille (butch female assassin)

Talon (small system)

Kein Tervold (nice guy smuggler)

Session 3 (November 11, 2007)
Anika, Adley, Blade Shade, Xavier

  • Xavier had “His” ship stolen, which is what the party has been travelling on; he finally comes out and confronts them.
  • Start off by hunting down DeVille on a chase through systems. When they make it to a place for the potential buyer.
    • There are three contacts that need to be checked out
      • First one is at a rundown old empty shipyard.  Adley stays behind to watch.
      • Second is an old Rival of Xavier’s
      • Of course a ship tries to leave from the first location and Adley tries to stop it.
  • Adley flings a small vehicle at the ship to try and make it appear as an accident.
    • Authorities arrive and see the crazy Adley in an accident and take him away to the mental ward.
    • Blade arrives then and teleports aboard and steals the War Heads back, then Anika creates fake replicas of them in their place.
  • They all flee to chase after the (buyer) to see where he is intending to take them.
    • But have to take some time to get Adley out of the psych ward, now with a criminal record.
  • They use Adley's impressive telekinesis and speed to flee from some mercenaries that where sent after them by, Xavier’s old rival Nakdel.
  • They follow him to a station just outside of the Odin the system, when an explosion shakes the skip and they are boarded.

People

Places

Nakdel (old rival and contact of Xavier)

Egand (where Adley has a criminal record)

Nakron (buyer of the War Heads)

Urson (where DeVille meets with buy)

Session 4 (November 30, 2007)
Ateros, Blade Shade, Xavier

  • We finish off the team of robotic troops that invaded the ship.
    • Ateros discovers that they were apparently sent after them by Leopold Martin a rich and powerful Duke in the Odin Empire that was the one after the weapons in the first place. Telepathically reaching out they are able to sense that the Duke and a small battalion of ships are waiting out in Hyperspace ready to strike.
    • Apparently the Duke has been wronged in some manner and wishes to destroy Odin for it crimes against him. Along with his acquisition of some apparently powerful allies, he plans on destroying the empire in this time of chaos.
    • The group flees to the main system and disguises their ship.
      • On the planet they attend a gather of a sort for smugglers that Xavier had been planning on attending.  There they are able to pick up a lot of news about current events and needed information about Xaviers missing girlfriend.
      • Blade Shade gets pulled and away and abruptly married to a psychotic spoiled noble girl.
      • They all flee.
    • As they trying to reach the Hyper Space gate to head toward Freya, for more information, they see that is guarded by several of the Dukes Ships. The Illusory disguise of their ship is suddenly ripped away and the ships open fire on them. They flee into a nebula where they discover an ancient Hyper Space gate. Ateros rigs it up to work, but it drains the ship of most of its fuel, and the jump was not successful. They rudely drop out of hyperspace midway between their trip, and are forced to make a stop on the nearest inhabitable world. Although it is habitable just barely.
    • When they start to search around they discover that Blade Shades new crazy wife has tagged along.

People

Places

Leopold Martin (Duke of Edinburgh, hates Odin)

Vorca (god untouched by plague or treaty)

Avril Odama (Odin noble, arranged marriage)

God Plague - Virtually indestructible. A symbiotic, living organism which acts much like a virus. The system of Esperian is infested with this plague, and is where many gods are banished.
Odama Regime - A long-lasting line of generals who have served in the Alliance military for generations. All members have a tendency to soar through the ranks of the militia. Ranks are usually passed from father to son.

Session 5 (December 7, 2007)

Adley, Ateros, Blade Shade, Xavier, (Anika played by gm)

  • We landed near one of the larger concentrations of people on the planet, with hopes of getting the fuel we need to leave the system.
    • We shut the ship down completely and locked it up so Blade Shade’s new bride, Bella Luna, couldn’t do any damage while we left her alone on it.
    • Donning space suits and prepping powers for the cold, we made our way on foot to the settlement, surprising the guards as we teleported through their weather-proof doors.
    • We find out the planet is named Minetia and the settlement is called Akard.
    • After speaking with the trader Kalard, Xavier started making a deal to set up a trade route as well as purchase the fuel we needed to leave.  But for some reason the Akard’s leader, Davrin, was opposed to this idea.
  • Before we finished our deal, Ateros sensed one of the duke’s ships come out of hyperspace near Minetia.
    • Ateros hacked into the ship and determined that the duke’s forces had been scattered from the gate and were being pursued by Imperial military even as they searched for us.
    • The digital samurai also sensed a small Imperial ship following it from hyperspace.  We decided to capture the duke’s ship before it could land or engage the Imperial ship.  Ateros broke through its security systems and shut down everything but life support before demanding their surrender.
    • The Imperial ship then dropped out of hyperspace and begins questioning us.  The pilot turns out to be Dakess Helene, Crown Prince in the Imperial Military and a powerful sorcerer that specialized in sensory and detection powers.
    • It turns out that Dakess was tracking the duke’s ship to find us.  After meeting us on the surface and examining the warheads containing the God Plague, he asks us what we intend to do with them.  While he likes our idea of destroying them better than the Imperial plan of burying them, he insists that the warheads be returned to Odin so that the Imperial government can keep an eye on them while making preparations and research for their destruction.
    • Since Blade refuses to remove them from his dimensional pocket, Dakess has to take him back to Odin in his own ship while the rest of the party limp back to Odin at a quarter the speed of Dakess’s ship.
  • It takes about a month for everyone to meet up on Odin.
    • This gives Blade (and Adley’s eye) three weeks in the Imperial Libraries to research the goddess Vorca, the only known goddess that opposed the God Plague and is not locked away on Esperian.
    • It also gives the rest of the party three weeks to adjust to the pinkness of the inside of the ship after Bella Luna finished decorating it.  How she managed to sneak herself and 27 pieces of luggage on board without notice is beyond us.  We safely lock her inside an invisible force cage.
    • We determine that the best way to contact Vorca is through prayer.  This prospect disturbs everyone except Blade, who hasn’t grown up in a society that abhors religion, and Entropy, who is a sword.  Prayers to Vorca surprise her and give us the indication that she can indeed help with the destruction of the God Plague.
    • Our next stop appears to be Dagon, where the old ways of religion are still taught and there might even be a priest of Vorca hidden among the scholars.  We just have to escape our Imperial captors.
    • Dakess agrees with out plan and also wants to see it completed successfully.  To this end he lets us “escape” so that he will have to “chase” us every step of the way.
  • The party flees Odin toward Dagon in hopes of finding a priest of Vorca. All the while they are persued by Dakess and his retinue of ships, hoping that he is indeed on their side in this matter and not playing them for fools.

People

Places

Kaladar (trader in Akard who wants trade route)

Minetia (barely habitable frozen world without a planetary hypergate)

Darvin (leader in Akard who doesn’t want trade route)

Akard (mining settlement beneath Minetia)

Dakess Helene (Crown Prince in the Imperial Military, powerful sorcerer)

Session 6 December 14, 2007

  • After several weeks of travel we manage to make our way from Odin to Dagon.  In pursuit is Prince Helene, although we are now unsure of his exact motives for letting us escape.
  • On Dagon we hit a bit of a snag since we weren’t exactly sure what we were looking for.  We split up to pursue different angles of inquiry.
    • Adley finds a drug dealing student who introduces him to a priest (name of god withheld for privacy).
      • It turns out that each god has exactly two followers: a priest and an apprentice.
      • This prevents a god from dying off but prevents them from being strong enough to do very much and keeps them locked on Esperion.
      • This priest tells Adley that the priest of Vorca is currently on Iserlohn.
    • Blade Shade passes himself off as a wandering professor and speaks with Professor Olus, a slightly manic scholar that knows quite a bit about religion and the old ways from an academic viewpoint.  He is certain that the return of the God Plague is just one sign of the returning power of the gods.
      • He cites recent news that suggests various fantastic creatures that were supposedly locked away on Esperion are loose.  This includes the Champions of Darkness and Light.
      • The Champion of Darkness is probably working with the Duke of Edinburgh.  He may be the one who ruined our attempt to run the Duke’s blockade.
      • The Champion of Light is probably not far from the Champion of Darkness.  He was originally created by the hound archon Novir long ago during the God War using a variation of the God Plague.
    • Anika spent her time trying to make sure that she didn’t get into any more trouble for the time she blew up the wizard she was going to apprentice under.
    • Special K wasn’t able to find out much about the gods, but he was able to find out that the fortress planet Iserlohn is about to be attacked by Imperial forces by direction of General Graviss.  Crown Prince Helene is leading the assault to retake the artificial world from Alliance hands.
  • We decide to make our way to Iserlohn and hopefully get there before the Imperials arrive.
    • Once we get there we see that one of its more powerful defensive systems is the fact it’s almost completely encased in several hundred feet of mercury, rendering it immune to most laser weaponry.
    • On arrival to the outer space port we inform Alliance personnel about the impending attack.  This handily gets us past the mercury sheath and down to the city inside.
    • With the Alliance distracted we have no problems making our way to the city square where Jaler, the priest of Vorca, finds us.
    • He tells us that Vorca guided him to us so he could share his thoughts about what to do with the God Plague.
      • It probably can’t be destroyed, but returning it to Esperion would prevent its use.
      • While the location of Esperion has been lost to time, there is an ancient temple on the planet Cathon, one of the first worlds stopped at as mortals fled Esperion, which contains the location of the ancient home world.
      • The followers of the gods are the reason that the God Plague, Champions, and other creatures have returned.  The gods are weak, but have slowly been building up the power to send these things forth towards their followers.
      • The only fix for this is for the followers of the gods to travel beyond the boundaries of known space away from everyone or to die; they are probably going to choose the first option.
  • At this point we are trying to decide whether to head towards Cathon through the Imperial armada or towards Heinessen, where Professor K’s girlfriend was last seen.  That was when the Imperials came out of hyperspace and began their siege against Iserlohn.

People

Places

Professor Olus (Slightly manic scholar who knows a lot about religion)

Dagon (A planet of schools and academies where knowledge of the old ways of religion still exist)

Novir (A hound archon who created the Champion of Light during the God War)

Iserlohn (An artificial planet used as a fortress.  Recently taken by the Alliance and about to be assaulted by Imperial forces)

General Graviss (Imperial general who wants to use the Duke’s rebellion and threat of the God Plague as an excuse to retake Iserlohn.  We’re waiting for him to show up in a four-armed suit of power armor wielding four energy blades.)

Cathon (A planet the mortal inhabitants of Esperion stopped at as they fled their home world)

Jaler (Priest of Vorca)

:. Sessions 7- 10

Session 10 January 25, 2007

  • With the Dragon Orb in hand, the group was given the task of eventually delivering the Orb to the Crimson Codex to complete the agreement between them and the Triumvirate.  Ateros, being a specialist on dragons, knew that the Dragon Orb’s original purpose was an information storage device and power source for ancient dragon starships.  The memory core was heavily damaged, but he was able to pull bits and pieces of video out that gave an incomplete picture of the past.
    • Dragons were the first species to explore the stars, being long lived enough to survive slower-than-light transit times.
    • Dragons broke down along two philosophical lines, order and chaos.  The orderly groups believed the lesser races should be molded and shaped through direct means.
    • One way the orderly groups did this was by forming conquering armadas in an attempt to take over or eradicate opposing views.
    • One such armada was centered on an oppressive religion and led by a near divine creature names Arius.
  • The group decided that while delivering the Orb was important for Kain’s new positions, finding a means of ridding the universe of the God’s Plague should take a higher priority.  Thus, the group started making its way to Cathon, where the location of Esperion is rumored to rest.  After several weeks of traveling they heard news of the destruction of Fastoon, whose population had been mostly killed off in a matter of days.  Thinking this might have something to do with the Duke or the God Plague, the group made the short jump there.
    • The devastation was as bad as had been reported.  The Odin government hadn’t had time to set up a perimeter to prevent looting or organize aid so the group had no problem making it to the surface.
    • After some searching they managed to find survivors, who described an armada appearing and demanding submission to a religion called Origins to worship the Ori.  It was led by someone very similar to the divine creature Ateros had seen in the records of the Dragon Orb.
    • At this point Ateros managed to find a message for the group waiting in the remains of the planetary network.  The Duke claimed to have made a temporary truce with Odin so he could get the God Plague and find a way to destroy it.  If the group didn’t hand them over it would be responsible for the renewed hostilities.
    • Despite how authentic the message appeared on the surface, careful analysis of all parts of the message led the group to the conclusion it was a lie perpetrated by the Duke to trick the group into handing over the warheads.
    • The message also provided an access point to one of the Duke’s comm. channels.  Searching it revealed correspondence between the Duke and some arms dealers trying to sell him more God Plague warheads.
  • The group headed to the planet Meridia and its capital city Obad-Hai, near where the Duke wanted to meet the group and the location of the transmissions from the arms dealers.
    • Searching the computer networks revealed the presence of the dealers, who kept their identities closely guarded.
    • The group sent messages to both the Duke and the dealers, changing the time and place of the deal for each side.  This would hopefully send the Duke on a wild chase while we bushwacked the dealers and grabbed their warheads.
  • They arranged a meet with the dealers out in an asteroid belt away from watching eyes.  This would allow the group to hopefully get the warheads and leave unchallenged.
    • Blade Shade hid most of the group in plain sight while Kain disguised himself as the Duke.
    • Once the trio of sellers arrived Blade was sure that their leader had not been expecting to see the Duke and that he had met the Duke elsewhere before.  Unfortunately, Kain took this to mean that the dealers had worked with the Duke before, exposing him as a fake since the dealers had not.
    • A short fight broke out between the two groups as Ateros shut down the disguising screens.  Derrigen stopped the fight when he realized that neither side had anything to fight over.
  • Derrigen brought his much larger Imperial cruiser around and everyone headed towards Cathon.  On the way several of the Duke’s cruisers were detected following them.  Derrigen chose to jump in close to the planet to try and land before the Duke’s ships could catch up.
    • Derrigen was able to safely bring his ship in, but for some unknown reason the reactor suddenly started going critical.  This forced everyone to evacuate to Kain’s ship, a prospect several in the group found unsettling given its pink nature thanks to Bella Luna.
    • Derrigen had grabbed Lyra and started running for Kain’s ship, finding a bloody and beaten Ateros on the way.  Anika had attempted to teleport herself to the ship and missed.  The rest of the group went through a portal created by a fake Ateros; except Darcon, who refused to go.
    • Darcon caught up with Derrigen, Lyra, and the real Ateros and explained that the Ateros on the bridge was a fake and had probably sabotaged the reactor.
    • Each group went there separate ways.  With Blade Shade, Kain, Adley, Bella Luna, and the fake Ateros making their way to the ancient temple, and Derrigen, Darcon, Lyra, and Ateros fleeing the ship on foot, with Anika missing and lost.

Session 9 July 4, 2008

  • The scene opens up on the Duke of Edinburgh’s ship as it arrives at the Wellspring of Knowledge in hyperspace.  The Wellspring is so old no one knows who built it, not even the gods.  The Duke has heard that the Wellspring contained knowledge about a cure for the God Plague, and he wanted it destroyed.
    • All of them recognized various architectures and temples to different gods, built at different times of human history.
    • The Dark Hero made his way to a garden, a temple of the druids who were rumored to have spread the first God Plague and created its antidote.  He spoke with the trees in the grove and learned of a strange temple a short ways away as well as the fact that the Wellspring was still inhabited by dragon-like tauroids.
    • The Dark Hero’s ability to communicate with anything allowed them to easily make their way to the temple without incident.
  • The temple was an odd, unadorned structure that simply contained doorways.  On the other side of the doorways was emptiness that extended beyond the reach of our senses, definitely much farther than the physical limits of the Wellspring.
    • The Champion of Light, crazed creature that it was, simply opened a door and walked through.  It closed behind him and would not reopen to the remainder of the group, despite repeated tries.
    • The rest of the group eventually just went through a different doorway, and ended up in a featureless room with a single door.  This door apparently led to the temple proper, hidden away in an extradimensional space.
    • The part of the temple they saw consisted of three parallel corridors separated by stone walls.  After being deposited part way down the outside corridors, both groups made their way towards an opening in the walls.
  • The Champion of Light found a dracotaur standing guard over a pair of crystal spheres, one red and one blue.  Believing these to be the cure and spoiling for a fight, he grabbed one sphere began attacking the guardian after she grabbed the other sphere.
    • The rest of the group, having entered the temple through a different doorway, came upon the fight and joined in, the time for talking to the guardian having passed.
    • The dracotaur proved to have inherited many aspects of her ancestors, being well prepared with area attack to fight multiple opponents.  The group mostly took cover and sniped at her while the Champion of Light stood toe to toe with her.
  • Things were starting to look good for the group until another band of travelers entered the temple.  They proved to be very capable and the group was hard pressed to beat them.
    • At this point the Technomage let his true colors shine and began aiding the enemies of the Duke.  Healing their injuries and attacking his former allies.
    • Once the Champion of Light had dropped the guardian he turned his attention towards their new opponents, only to miss the opportunity to grab the second sphere when the teleported grabbed it and moved it beyond his reach.
    • Their brick easily got a hold of the Dark Hero and began trying to pummel him unconscious, a task made difficult because much of the force of his blows were being absorbed and healing his opponent.
    • The Duke was able to gain momentary control of the teleporter and had him bring the second sphere back, but was unable to get the sphere once his opponent broke free of his mental grasp.
    • The Duke and his allies made one last attempt to grab the second sphere and not lose control of their own before the teleporter grabbed his allies, the Technomage, and the Dark Hero and teleported away, leaving one sphere in the possession of each group.

Dark Hero (Devil looking for freedom)

Session 8 December 30, 2007

  • The scene opened on Alutia at a hotel restaurant with Prof Xavier and Macbeth waiting for Tao, local syndicate boss.  They hoped to clear Xavier’s name, he had lost an important piece of cargo meant for an agreement between the Triumvirate and the Crimson Codex.
    • Tao showed flanked by a pair of women, one of whom was Serenia, Xavier’s girlfriend who had infiltrated the Triumvirate.
    • Rather than talk any kind of deal, Tao pretty much just talked down to Xavier, revealed the fact he knew Serenia was working for them and had her shot down, making quite a mess.
    • When Xavier got up to do something about this Macbeth shot him, pissing him off but mainly just killing him.
  • We then backtracked to Iserlohn just as the Imperials arrived.  With no reason to stay we decided to sneak off the fortress with the rest of the civilians.  This went off without incident and we started making our way to Alutia, the last place Xavier had known his girlfriend to be.
    • Once we got there Xavier used his mental powers to track down Serenia, who was rather surprised at his arrival.
    • We met up with Serenia and Macbeth, who were apparently in the process of trying to clear Xavier’s name and prove that Tao stole the artifact that was supposed to seal the deal between the Triumvirate and the Crimson Codex and set Xavier up to take the blame.
    • Xavier was suspicious of Macbeth’s motives; he probably thought there was something going on between Macbeth and Serenia.
    • After Xavier left, Macbeth spoke to us about his real plan.  He had acquired a device that could bring someone back from death, which Blade didn’t think was very impressive.  Apparently Serenia and Xavier were both going to die to keep Tao distracted while the rest of us snuck into Tao’s office and located the artifact he had stolen.
  • The first part went like it was supposed to.  We also had little problem making our way to the large vault he kept various valuable things in.  The plan went out the window when Preoir, a powerful sorceress working for Tao, walked into the vault.
    • She teleported Ateros up to the restaurant just as two squads of chemically augmented troopers burst in to both the vault and the restaurant upstairs.
    • Macbeth revived Xavier, who almost shot him in return, and then revived Serenia who spend the rest of the fight unconscious after the troopers opened fire on everyone.
    • Down in the vault, Adley begins protecting everyone on both floors, thanks to the fact his eyeball is resting in Xavier’s pocket.
    • Blade keeps pressure on Preoir, preventing her from summoning more help and tying up a pair of the teleporting troopers.
    • Anika is harassed by a pair of troopers as she tries to find a way to get the artifact we’re after out of its security case.  She eventually just turns herself incorporeal, slips inside the case, and grabs it before teleporting herself and Adley up to the restaurant.
    • Upstairs the group is hard pressed.  Xavier has managed to take control of one of the troopers, but the rest are proving much harder to take out.  Macbeth manages to pull a nice stunt and freeze all the troopers long enough for Anika to blast them out of the fight.
  • At this point Tao reappeared.  He had been watching the upstairs fight the entire time and seen through Macbeth’s ploy to distract him from our trip to the vault.  He’d had the artifact with him the entire time.  It turns out to be a Dragon Orb, capable of controlling dragons and creating shadow copies to control if natural ones happen to not be around.
    • Tao summoned up a shadow copy of a huge black dragon and had it breath fire on everyone in the room.  Tao had a conspicuous unburnt sphere around him afterwards.
    • Ateros ran up to Tao and realized that his psychic sword and telekinetic blasts would be unable to directly affect the mobster, but it would also keep him safe from the dragon’s breath.
    • Adley’s powers, however, were unaffected by Tao nullifying field and he was able to rip the orb from Tao’s hand and bring it over to Anika.
    • Tao countered his lack of direct control of the dragon by hitting it with a mental effect that turned its own mind into a copy of Tao’s.
    • Anika was able to use the orb to gain a measure of control over the dragon, but the only real affect she had on it was having it waste time trying to overcome the orb.
    • Blade’s powers may have been nullified around Tao, but Entropy was immune to this effect and was quite capable of hurting the physically unimpressive mobster.
    • Preoir eventually made her way up to the restaurant level and prevented us from having much effect on Tao by constantly regenerating his battered body.
    • Anika finally managed to dispel the conjured dragon as Adley forced all of his power into creating a restraining chair capable of nullifying and holding Tao.
    • Once Tao was out of the fight, Blade stared down Preoir long enough for the group to recover and escape with the Dragon Orb.
  • With the Dragon Orb in our possession and proof that Tao had stolen it for himself and set up Xavier to take the blame, Xavier was able to claim Tao’s position in the Triumvirate and complete the deal with the Crimson Codex.

Session 7 December 28, 2007

    • Having made our way to Cathon after visiting Alutia and dealing with Professor K’s problems, we landed a few miles away from what we believed to be the ancient temple we were looking for.
    • The temple was designed like a coliseum and built into a mile-high cliff face.
    • No sooner had we arrived then our presence was immediately noticed.  Demonic creature led by a powerful archon began chasing us through the ruins.  These defenders were very powerful and after defeating only a few of the weaker ones we decided to make our escape, pulling Adley out of the dog pile the demons were creating on him.
    • Having reached the top steps that led deeper into the temple, we paused.  Only to have the archon teleport between us and the deeper chambers.  She then gated in several more infernal creatures and pressed the attack.
    • However, her actions seemed to have aroused the notice of the temple’s try guardian.  A death slaad burst out of one of the side chambers and recited a Draconic incantation that turned on the defenses of the temple.  The most obvious defense was that all the walls and pillars became sheathed in powerful hellfire.  This incinerated most of the infernal assault force but also overcame the psychic Ateros.  Adley finished off the remaining shock troops by slamming them into hellfire-wreathed pillars.
    • After that it devolved into a three-way fight between us, the archon, and the death slaad.  After much teleporting around the landscape of the outer chamber, we eventually managed to drop the archon and Adley finished off the death slaad by turning it into cake.  We weren’t sure if the slaad could resurrect itself, but we figured since it quickly turned from cake into burnt charcoal dust this wouldn’t be a problem in the immediate future.

Session 12 Febuary 10

  • With the temple guardian and interlopers dispatched, the main group was able to access the computer core and find the location of Esperion.  Unfortunately, it would take over a year in Kain’s ship to reach it and only several months in a larger Odin military vessel.
    • With Derrigen’s group safely aboard Kain’s pink ship, they carefully warned the main group about the fake Ateros without alerting the fake.
    • Once everyone was back on Kain’s ship, the fake Ateros was quickly defeated and restrained.  It surprised almost everyone by returning to its true form of a doppelganger.  They were among the races supposedly left behind on Esperion, but rumors had circulated that they appeared occasionally in various places.
    • The doppelganger was able to tell them that it had been receiving orders from both the Champion of Light and General Graviss, and it wasn’t able to tell if they were two different people.  The general wanted Derrigen out of the way while he took control of the Imperial government.
  • With their escape from the dying star system, the group is contacted by Prince Helene, who they had completely forgotten was “chasing” them.  It seems when Anika tried to teleport to Kain’s ship, she had instead teleported outside the system and into the second seat on Helene’s ship.
    • Helene was able to make some suggestions on the best course of action once they reached Odin.  Esperion was just too far away to go to dump the God Plague and the girl Olivia that Derrigen’s group found was supposed to have some connection to the cure for it.
    • Rather than spend a month getting there in Kain’s ship, Anika devised a way to teleport to Odin.  Ateros would take the ship and deliver the dragon orb to the Crimson Codex.
  • Arriving in one of the parks on Odin, the group discovered that martial law had been declared and quickly split up to elude security forces.  Blade, Kain, Lyra, and Olivia made their way to the Imperial palace and eventually found the location of the queen and younger nobles.
    • The classroom they were being held in was a trap.  The Champion of Light was waiting for the group and activated a protective barrier around the room.
    • At this point the group found out the horrible truth of the Champion’s survival, it was able to turn ordinary people into copies of itself.  This made the fight very difficult since one Champion could keep the group occupied while the others used the children in the room to make more Champions.
    • Olivia proved to be of no real help in the fight; she simply didn’t know what to do and had no useful abilities herself.
    • Kain was eventually able to wake up the queen, who was of some help.  All it really did was move the fight to around her bed.
    • Eventually help arrived in the form of Anika and Darcon.  Anika broke the barrier down and Darcon gave a blue sphere he had found at the Wellspring of Knowledge to Olivia.
    • Whatever Olivia did to the Champions had no visible effect on them, but the group was still able to eventually defeat all of the Champions.

Session 11 Febuary 01

  • With the groups split up the focus concentrated on Derrigen and his group consisting of himself, Darcon the dark knight, Lyra the slightly pungent undead, and Ateros the real one.  Having just escaped their exploding ship, the group wasn’t quite sure where to begin looking for the cure to the God’s Plague.
    • At this point the tops of several surrounding mountains shook loose and revealed crystal focused energy weapons that took aim and fired at the sky, hopefully at the Duke’s interloping ships.
    • Ateros noticed another build up of energy underneath a mountain that had not revealed a weapon.  This buildup seemed to peak and then start draining away with no noticeable effect.  As the only lead the group had to go on, the group began making its way towards the mountain.
  • Before getting very far, one of the Duke’s ships landed within sight of the mountain.  Apparently the crystal weapons had either not been aiming at the Duke’s ships, or had just missed.
    • Having had luck with this in the past, Ateros attempted to hack the ship’s computer systems and take it over.  However, rather than finding a security network or AI, he ran into a plant.  The network was apparently an add-on to supplement the living ship.
    • Ateros was not able to make much progress talking to the sapient plant other than to determine that the plant mainly wanted to ensure nothing bad happened to its crew.
    • At this point the purpose of the crystal weapons became evident as the system’s primary started swelling and color shifting to red.  The star was going to explode and there wasn’t much time to find the cure and get out.
  • Teleporting to the base of the mountain the group found an ancient entrance to the complex inside it.  Ateros was able to interface with the computer network but wasn’t able to get very far because it was distributed and the parts controlling the security systems were isolated and unreachable, teleporting was also blocked or hampered throughout the facility.
    • Ateros began disabling the security systems we encountered as Darcon simply barreled through them to let Ateros know where they were.
    • The group didn’t get very far before another group caught up with them.  Consisting of Avanos the summoner, Mo-tep the telepath, and Abel-le-roy the tanks.
    • Derrigen quickly dropped Mo-tep, who spent the rest of the fight unconscious.  Avanos proved much harder to deal with since it was able to turn invisible and insubstantial as it summoned Devastators to wreak havoc among the group.  Darcon kept pressure on Abel-le-roy, preventing him from doing much during the fight.
    • After driving the opposing group away Ateros continued attempting to disarm traps, but accidentally set off a teleport trap that dragged him away just as the Duke’s men came back for a second round.  He quickly extricated himself and disarmed the remaining traps as he was harassed by one of the guardians of the complex.
    • With the traps disarmed, the group quickly left the Duke’s men to deal with the guardian.  Finding what looked like a teleportation portal of some kind, the group managed to make their way deeper into the complex.
  • The next part of the facility had suffered considerable damage since the time it had been constructed.  Parts of it had fallen into deep caverns and were flooded by underground rivers.  This didn’t hamper the group much since everyone either didn’t need to breath or had equipment to allow them to breath in water.
    • The group split up to follow several branching paths of the river downstream.  Derrigen’s group eventually fell over a waterfall and found a large medical tank that appeared to be where the energy spike Ateros had sensed earlier had come from.
    • The tank held a confused young woman with no memories who wanted to be let out.  Ateros was worried that she was dangerous, but the rest of the group figured if she couldn’t get out of the tank on her own she wasn’t a serious threat to them.  Derrigen smashed the tank open and grabbed the girl before the group made their way back to the surface.
